PLACES TO VISIT IN NORTHUMBERLAND; ATTRACTIONS, HISTORY & NATURE
THINGS TO SEE, PLACES TO GO……
We are situated in the heart of Northumberland National Park and have a wide variety of fantastic attractions to visit; from Kielder Water and Forest Park with the Kielder Observatory and the Bird of Prey Centre. There’s fishing, Hadrians Wall, Wallington Hall and Cragside, Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the breathtaking Bamburgh Castle on the Northumberland coast. You will always have lots of options for days out in this historic part of the North East.
Kielder Water & Forest Park
Enjoy watersports or fishing or simply chill by the lakeshore on Britain’s largest artificial lake. Enjoy the peace and quiet that can be found in the remote corners of Europe’s largest man made forest.
An evening event with a difference – an astronomical observatory that runs public observation sessions under some of Europe’s darkest skies thanks to its Dark Skies Park status! Booking required.
One of Europe’s premier historic sites, the Roman Emperor’s “tax border” or defensive fortification is still a monumental sight to see! And it’s literally just down the road!
Alnwick Castle and Gardens
Soak up some real Borders history in the castle and then relax in the treehouse overlooking Alnwick’s finest garden park! You can even tread the locations made famous in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey!
Northumberland’s Holy Island where mediaeval monk, St Cuthbert set up the priory, which sparked the spread of Christianity throughout the British Isles. This place still carries a very special aura and is well worth a visit.
